Had Dan Rayburn, UBuildIt, Tacoma, Wa. in charge of building my retirement home.

He is not licensed and performed much of the work. He also has a past fine with L&I for performing work without a license. My front door was installed incorrectly and when I had it done over, the actual plugs and screws were hidden under the door jamb. The security door was installed where the bottom *** doesn't even reach the lock hole, so it doesn't lock.

He decided that I didn't need a shelf above the fireplace, so he had the drywall guys build the wall straight up from the front of the fireplace. I had to have that knocked down, so now the ceiling is lower than the rest of the house. The fireplace is not centered, it's not leveled. He used vinyl flooring for shelf material, above the fireplace, so it has many rolls in it.

Any contractor know you can't use vinyl material for a shelf above the fireplace. The walls, above the fireplace, have huge mismatched areas. He also took it upon himself to put in wood shelving when I had orders aluminum wire shelving. He installed a half shelf in the laundry room.

I told him it had to be all the way across, so he put in another partial wood shelf which doesn't even match up to the other part. He didn't follow the UBuildIt requirements and took a year when he finally got out of here. The finish work he holds for himself and his son when they could get too it. There are so many more issues gone wrong, just too many to list.

In the L&I site, he has had several company names and all are closed. L&I called and told me he's been turned in a few times. Now that this took thousands more to build, than what he told me to begin with, is still a work in progress to get the items fixed as I can. It was the biggest nightmare in my whole entire life.

How he can even sleep or look at himself in a mirror, is beyond me. It was lie, after lie, after lie. I had an attorney, reported this to the attorney general, to BBB, and to L&I. The attorney said I had an excellent case and could win a substantial amount of money, except, that this guy probably showing no income to get the money.

I decided to fix things as I go along. Just beware and do not hire or believe in this guy. Even the bank loan managers were very irritated with this guy.

He told them he would have it done by a certain date and it still went on another 3 months, not completing it then. No one who watched me go through with what I did, could believe all the mistakes, issues, building time, that he put me through and end up with a bunch of shoddy looking work.

That's what he told me, but, never did it. He's a huge *** artist!

I'm a person that wants to believe in others.

I'm probably the most honest person around and just don't know how others can screw other people over. I could not look at myself if I did this.

This is the learning curve of knowing when to fire a bad contractor or in this case a liar and cheat, and move onto legal action.By prolonging this situation made itworse and worse. Learn from the speech at the end of Legally Blonde2 - "speak up don't let yourself have a bad hair day".
